PAST INFO
Congratulations on being selected to participate in the 2022 GEAR UP Kentucky Summer Academy at Eastern Kentucky University!
In order to confirm your participation in this Summer Academy, which runs from July 12-July 29, each participating student's parent/guardian must complete the 6 Steps to Summer Academy outlined below.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Tony Bartley, site director of the GUK Summer Academy at Eastern Kentucky University: tony.bartley@ky.gov or 859-227-2199 (call or text).
6 Steps to Summer Academy
Step 1 | Review FAQ document for parents/guardians.
Step 2 | Complete electronic Academy Registration Packet by 5/9.
- On Monday, April 25, each parent/guardian will receive an email from "Mason Doyle via DocuSign" or "Laura Negron via DocuSign," which will include an electronic acceptance packet.*
- Parents/guardians must complete and electronically sign all forms by Monday, May 9,
2022, to confirm their student's spot.
- If we have not received your acceptance materials through DocuSign by this deadline, your student will forfeit their opportunity to attend the Academy and their spot will be given to a waitlisted student.
- If you have any issues completing or submitting the packet, please contact Tony Bartley (see contact info above or below).
Step 3 | Complete EKU college application by 5/9.
- In order to earn free college credit, Summer Academy students will be become admitted college students during their three-week experience. Thus, as part of the acceptance process, students are required to complete the free application for admission to Morehead.
- This application must be completed by 5/9; click here to open step-by-step instructions walking you through this process.
Step 4 | Attend Virtual GUK Summer Academy Family Orientation.
- We are hosting a virtual family orientation to share with parents/guardians what students will be experiencing on campus, as well as provide the opportunity to ask questions.
- At least one parent/guardian of each student is REQUIRED to attend family orientation.
- Please register using this link to attend Zoom orientation on one of the following dates:
- Wednesday, 5/25, 1:00-2:00 p.m. OR
- Thursday, 6/2, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Step 5 | Receive and review Welcome Packet.
- You can expect to receive another packet of information via email (coming from Tony Bartley) prior to the start of the Academy; this packet will contain the final schedule, a packing list, check-in-day instructions, etc.
Step 6 | Ensure your student has maintained a 2.5 GPA.
- In order to participate in this Academy (where they will earn free college credit), students must earn a GPA of at least 2.5 during their 9th grade year.
- To confirm their eligibility, their end-of-year GPAs will be reviewed by GEAR UP Kentucky staff, who will send a statement of eligibility to EKU. Any student who does not have a 2.5 GPA at the end of their 9th grade year will not be eligible to participate in Summer Academy.
