The GEAR UP Kentucky Scholarship
You don't have to compete - you just have to complete!
GEAR UP Kentucky students, whether you're thinking about college or another education
program (like trade school after high school, the GEAR UP Kentucky Scholarship will
help make it more affordable!
If you're a member of the Class of 2027-2032 at a GEAR UP Kentucky high school (see sidebar), you are well on your way to receiving scholarship money!
How much money can I receive?
The GEAR UP Kentucky Scholarship includes two awards:
- First-Year Enrollment Scholarship: Class of 2027 GEAR UP Kentucky graduates will receive a $750 award your first year. Each year, the award will be equal to the federal minimum Pell Grant for that academic year; it is estimated that this award will be $700-800 annually.
- Second-Year Persistence Scholarship: If you return to a Kentucky institution for a second consecutive year, you will receive an additional $600 scholarship.
How do I get the money?
Great news! You are not competing against other students for a limited number of scholarships.
If you qualify for The GEAR UP Kentucky Scholarship, it's yours! To qualify, all you
have to do is:
- Graduate from a GEAR UP Kentucky high school (see sidebar);
- Take part in at least one approved & documented GEAR UP Kentucky activity during high school;
- Complete the FAFSA & GEAR UP Kentucky Senior Survey; and
- Complete all the above steps by the deadline.
