Registration now open for 2016 Teacher/Leader Academy
As part of GUK’s School Improvement Services designed to increase capacity to implement Kentucky Core Academic Standards (KCAS), the second biennial GEAR UP Teacher/Leader Academy will take place on July 11-14, 2016 in Lexington. To register, schools/districts must contact their Regional Program Manager by May 20, 2016.
The teacher academy will run concurrently with a parallel four-day session for school administrators. The workshops are designed to support community-based activities that bring KCAS to life in and outside the classroom. Participants will:
- Work together to identify skills necessary for academic success in high school, college and career
- Develop approaches to support skill development in content area courses that enable students to be successful in a rigorous learning environment.
- Identify important skills that cultivate broader school-wide expectations and explicit classroom level approaches for developing those skills as part of a rigorous curriculum.
This event is sponsored by GUK at no cost to the schools/districts. Additional details regarding content, travel and lodging arrangement are available in the 2016 Teacher/Leader Academy flyer.
In addition to the workshop activities, an opening session/welcome reception will be held for all participants on the evening of Sunday, July 10 at the Hilton Lexington Downtown. All participants will also visit the GUK Summer Academy at the University of Kentucky on Wednesday, July 13, to observe Academy activities and meet with university faculty, staff, and students for a facilitated dialogue on the realities of college and career readiness from K-12 and postsecondary perspectives.
